Women's Health

What are women's health problems?

There are a number of conditions which are specific to women. These include pelvic floor problems, prolapse, mastitis, and back and neck pain during or after pregnancy.

Pelvic floor problems are a common complaint but people are often reluctant to seek help or simply do not know what to do about it. Pelvic floor symptoms include; leakage of urine, urgency, poor bowel control, a feeling of weakness or heaviness in the lower abdominal region, or lower back pain.

Many people do pelvic floor exercises incorrectly which can cause pelvic floor weakness and in some cases can lead to a prolapse.

Flinders Avenue Physiotherapy is among a small number of clinics that uses a specialised ultrasound technology known as Realtime Ultrasound Imaging to provide a thorough assessment of the pelvic floor.

This technology enables us to see the pelvic floor muscles contracting so we can measure the level of contraction and teach the correct technique. Realtime Ultrasound Imaging is non-invasive, painless and completely safe.

It is important for anyone planning to become pregnant or after childbirth to do pelvic floor exercises regularly and correctly.

Correcting your technique at this stage can help prevent pelvic floor problems and lower back pain later in life.
